When A Colon Cleanse Is Not Recommended

If you have one bowel movement generally after each meal, with no difficulty in removing waste, then there is little need for you to colon cleanse. You need to colon cleanse if you have accumulated waste materials stored in your body due to years of having an unhealthy diet, consuming little fiber and not drinking enough water. Symptoms that can help indicate a need for it includes lethargy, severe constipation, migraines and frequent occurrences of candida yeast infection. Many individuals have reported an improvement in their health once they start to colon cleanse.

Colon cleansers can be subjected to abuse just like any other product or medicine. They can cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance if used in excess of need. Abuse often occurs in situations where individuals intend to do it for weight loss reasons. With an overuse, dehydration and/or electrolyte imbalances can result. Also, when you develop a dependency on colon cleansing products, you can affect the ability of your body to remove waste products on its own.

Also, while the risk may seem small, it is still possible to develop infections due to unhygienic practices. For instances, hydrotherapy cleanses can cause infections due to dirty apparatus, damage to the walls of the intestine and over hydration. These can create harm and even be deadly.

If you have a medical condition such as cancer, irritable bowel syndrome or Crohn's disease, you should not use an over the counter (OTC) colon cleanser without first seeking the advice of your licensed health care provider. Complications can arise, which can develop into something life threatening.

If you are ill such as having a cold or fever or if you are taking medications, you should refrain from doing a colon cleanse. The concern is also that the herbal ingredients used in the colon cleansing products may interact with the drugs that you are taking. Herbs are not regulated by the FDA so you will never be certain of what you are getting. When you are not well, you really should be resting.

Anything that introduce into your body either by mouth or into a body crevice has to be checked for product quality and safety. Only purchase products that are sold by a reputable company. Hence, colon cleansing products that do not appear to be properly manufactured should never be used.

Our bodies are designed to function normally on their own when we consume proper natural foods available to us. However, it becomes necessary to intervene when we fail to do so and our bodily functions become disrupted. Minimise your risk to poor digestive health with the following guidelines:

Drink 2 liters of water a day.

Consume organic foods.

Chew your food more.

Adding plant fiber to your diet.

Slow down when eating.

Avoid over-eating.

If there is a condition which you like to address, it is always in your best interest to consult with a healthcare professional prior to a colon cleanse. If he thinks it is appropriate for you to do so, he may even need to design one specifically tailored to your needs.
